Cave, edition of 3 + 2 AP, cast bronze, 2013
My hometown of St. Louis is a city built on a network of caves. They served personal, commercial and functional purposes. Breweries stored beer and hosted events, and citizens did the same to an extent. According to a local rumor, all public and commercial access points have been closed off, except one. This last supposed entrance lies beneath a manhole cover in a city street. In this piece I've replaced cast iron "water" street covers with bronze facsimiles reading "CAVE". I'm teasing passers by with the idea that perhaps they have found the entrance, yet can't directly engage with it due to size. At the same time it's a reward to the the observant eye that notices the deviation from the norm.
